Justin Tuck Says Sacking Tom Brady In Super Bowl Is Like Hunting Deer

Turn on Giants Coach Tom Coughlin, risk a fat lip from Justin Tuck

With whispers growing louder about the job security of Tom Coughlin, Tuck says he better not hear any of that noise, lest he introduce his fist to your face. He told the New York Daily News : If anyone turns on our coach, I would be the first one to punch him in the mouth. And put that in print. It better not happen, I know that. Given the context, its hard to tell if Tucks mouth-punching threat is just for people inside the Giants locker room turns on anyone at all who turns on Coughlin. If its the latter, is he going to stake out theNew York Post offices to punch headline writers? Is he going to listen to Mike Francesa all week so he can add Dominic from Bayside to the hit list? And is this retroactive? Should Tiki Barber start walking the streets in a helmet?

Ive had opportunities to play the game at the highest level, the Super Bowl, Ive had opportunities to get sacks and big plays at the Super Bowl. Ive also had opportunities to hunt some of the more majestic animals that God has put on this earth. I dont know if I could put one higher than the other, but theyre both pretty awesome. Interesting. Sacking the golden boy is equivalent to shooting a glorious animal trophy? It makes some sense, sure, but there are plenty of differences. Does that animal have a contract with Uggs ?

Chris Canty says Justin Tuck needs to worry about punching opposing offenses, not NY Giants teammates

And put that in print. It better not happen, I know that. You’d hope other Giants would be in line behind Tuck to do the same (figuratively speaking, of course). After all, Coughlin has led the Giants to Super Bowl victories twice in the last five seasons. Receiver Victor Cruz might not have turned on the coach, but he did offer some criticism after the Giants’ 31-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. On fourth and inches from their own 30 late in the third quarter, Coughlin elected to punt with his team trailing, 10-7 — a decision not popular with the players. I thought we should have gone for it on that fourth down, Cruz said.

It better not happen, I know that.” Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz questioned one of Coughlin’s decisions in Sunday’s game. With the Giants trailing 10-7 late in the third quarter and facing fourth-and-1 at their 30, Coughlin elected to punt rather than go for a first down. “We’ve got to take a risk at some point and make something happen,” Cruz told reporters. The punt was returned 89 yards for a touchdown by Dexter McCluster , giving Kansas City a 17-7 lead. When asked about Cruz’s comment on Monday, Coughlin said he was not concerned, even joking about the matter.

The man who has led the franchise to two Super Bowl titles must trust in his ample leadership skills and loyalty from prominent veterans to prevent his charges from suffering an irreversible collective decompensation. Were not going to be separated, said Tuck, one of the Giants most influential voices. Its not about offense against defense. Were a team. We win as a team, we tie as a team and we lose as a team. The Giants have not performed consistently well on offense, defense nor special teams. They have been unable to string together more than two consecutive quarters of mistake-free football. The issues have not been the absence of solid game plans, but the unfathomably poor execution of them.

Giants De Jason Pierre-paul Still Looking For Old Self After Back Surgery

Pierre-Paul was freakish in how he dominated games in his first two seasons, only to struggle last year because of a back injury. When Pierre-Paul had disk surgery in June, the assumption was he would dominate games once again when he returned. When It didnt happen in the season opener against Dallas, many felt it was because he missed training camp. Heading into Week 5 against the Eagles (1-3) at MetLife Stadium, the Giants wait for JPP continues. He has 12 total tackles, one sack and hes been pushed around more than he has pushed. Pierre-Paul, who had 16 sacks in his second season, insists hes not wondering where the dominant JPP went. You could sit here and dwell on the past, said the 24-year-old who had a slight MLC injury last week. You just got to look toward the future.

He tried to reduce the pain level by strengthening his core during the season, and he admitted taking three shots during the year to numb the pain. It didn’t work and it showed on the field. Pierre-Paul was not as dominant as he had been the previous year, although many suspected that was because opponents were paying more attention to him with double-and-triple team blocking. “Like I said, I don’t know how much my back had to do with it or whatever,” said Pierre-Paul, who added the pain started two years ago and only got worse. “It was a constant pain when I got down in my stance. When we played a 4-3, I always have to be down, and the push off that was there, and the pain takes away a big part of it.” Pierre-Paul said he disclosed the pain with the Jason Pierre-Paul Womens Nike Jersey trainers and talked to the team doctors about it, but they recommended that he continue his core training. The pain seemed to disappear after the season ended, but it returned during minicamp.

RELATED: SUNDAY MORNING QB: THE BEST AND WORST OF MANN We have the same guys in here that won a Super Bowl a couple of years ago and understand what it takes to win games and to be in that position and make the playoffs and excel during the playoffs, Victor Cruz said. I definitely think we have that in this locker room and I definitely still believe. The Giants created such a big mess by no-showing the first month of the season that they now have a massive cleanup project the next three months. There is no quick fix to this, Justin Tuck said. We got to figure out a way to win a football game. Ron Antonelli/Getty Images Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has as many drops as catches in last week’s loss at Kansas City. How does a team with a minus-85 point differential, second worst in the NFL to the wretched Jaguars, turn it around with no running game, no pass rush and a quarterback averaging 2.25 interceptions per game? How do the Giants, who have given up an NFL-high 146 points and have allowed at least 30 points in the first four games of the season for the first time in their history its also the only time they have given up as many as 31 points in four straight games in the same season suddenly get themselves on a run?

Jason Pierre-Paul: ‘I’m pretty sure’ Giants will beat Chiefs in Week 4

We tried to hold back on his reps and then we brought him along, and currently he’s pretty much taken everything he can take trying to catch up.” Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said opponents are still doubling Pierre-Paul. He could not break down the number of times the Giants’ 2010 first-round pick faces one opponent or multiple players. “I think everybody’s expectation was so high that he could come back and be Superman I’ll use that term, OK,” Fewell said. “But obviously a player has to work himself back into shape. He has to work himself back into football mentality and he has to keep working at his craft for his skills to rise to the top level.” Fewell thinks Pierre-Paul is getting there. The Eagles will certainly give him chances.

In the case of Jason Pierre-Paul, though, the roles have flip-flopped. After general manager Jerry Reese said on WFAN yesterday that the Giants expect to have the defensive end back for the Sept. 8 opener against the Cowboys, Pierre-Paul dumped the idea in the ice tub as if it was Prince Amukamara. “I’d say it’s not really the doctors’ decision no more,” Pierre-Paul said. “It’s basically on me. It all depends on my recovery and how my back feels and if I can go out there and practice with the team . . .

Last Sundays belly flop in Carolina may have been the low point the Giants certainly want to believe it was. The Panthers sacked Eli Manning seven times and led 31-0 at the end of three quarters, before coasting home. Pierre-Paul, who missed the whole preseason after back surgery, made his first start of 2013 in that game. So perhaps his return to a full-time role will help spark the defense. Through three weeks of the regular season, no team in football has allowed more points than the Giants (115). Each of their past two foes have topped 400 yards. The Giants own offense, meanwhile, has mustered all of 54 points in three games, the 27th best mark in the league.

I talked to him about Philly.

Don’t worry, folks, David Diehl is coming to the rescue: Interesting tidbit from Giants source: @davediehl66 “having special splint made for finger to get him out on the field by this weekend.” But seriously, it only takes one hit. Like the one on Tom Brady in September 2008 . Or the one that ended Brett Favre ‘s career-start streak at 297 in December of 2010. Yet Manning is willing to take on more.

Manning’s Teflon days running out

The Giants are lucky the rest of the NFC East hasn’t been great so far, either. Amazing as it sounds, they’re still only two games out of first place, there’s a lot of ball still to play, and the Eagles come into Sunday’s game riding a three-game losing streak themselves. But while Eagles QB Michael Vick has thrown only two interceptions all year, Manning could at this rate match his total last season of 19 interceptions by the midpoint of this season, and pass his previous career worst of 25 by the three-quarter mark. And while Mark Sanchez was absolutely torched for how often he turned over the ball before losing the Jets’ starting job to Greg McElroy , and now Smith, did you know Manning actually has more turnovers (103) than Sanchez (95) or anyone in the NFL since 2009, Sanchez’s rookie year? The problem just seems even more imperative than ever for Manning to fix now because the Giants team around him isn’t as good as it once was. The slender margin for error the wildly erratic Giants had all those other years that Manning bailed them out with his late-game, Hero Ball comebacks feels more slender than ever, too. http://www.giantspro.com/99-womens-nike-new-york-giants-10-eli-manning-game-pink-breast-cancer-awareness-nfl-nfl-jersey.html Second-year back David Wilson hasn’t given the Giants the running attack or big plays they hoped he would as a starter. The Giants’ pass rush has so far been a shadow of what it used to be. The linebacking corps doesn’t feature any game-changers, and the secondary — though it always seems banged up — has actually held up better than expected, crazy as it sounds given the Giants have given up 30 points or more in all four games.

Sunday Morning Quarterback: Peyton Manning unstoppable while Eli struggles to win

Broncos QB Peyton Manning has 16 TDs, 0 INTs, a QB rating of 138.0 entering his matchup with the Cowboys.

From Eli, the one thing you marvel at is just how accurate he is. He may be the best deepaball thrower in the game. The other thing I don’t think Eli gets credit for is just how tough he is. He gets hit, just gets up and has the same exact demeanor, then goes and continues to do the same exact thing. I think there’s a real toughness to Eli, an extreme accuracy when he’s throwing the football. There’s times when I think everybody thinks, We’re pretty close in our coverage, all of a sudden he fits the ball in there. Especially with balls down the field, that’s what separates Eli from a lot of other quarterbacks, how accurate he is in the downatheafield throws. The numbers for this year don’t necessarily support the praise, although Manning has thrown for a 7th ranked 240 deep yards per PFF. His deep ball accuracy ranks 17th out of 21 QBs, however. Manning has attempted 20 deep passes (20+ yards down the field) and has managed to only complete 5 of them.

QB Watch: Giants’ Eli Manning

Under pressure pretty much all day, he completed 18 of 37 passes for 217 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Of the 217 yards, 69 came on a touchdown pass to Victor Cruz . Manning’s completion percentage has gone down in each game this year, though he has thrown only two interceptions the past two weeks after throwing seven in the first two. Fast-forward: The Giants’ next game is Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at home against the Philadelphia Eagles , who have allowed more passing yards (1,300) than all but one team in the league. Opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of 107.2 against the Eagles this year, with nine touchdown passes and only two interceptions. Philadelphia has 10 sacks through four games. Historically bad: Manning’s Total QBR, according to ESPN Stats & Information, is 30.0 this season, his lowest through four weeks in the last eight seasons. Remember, that’s on a scale of zero to 100, with 50.0 an average mark.

Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) October 1, 2013 A heavier workload may be all it takes for him to get back on track, especially if he trusts himself a bit more with the ball and lets his instincts take over. After all, there’s a reason why he was such a trendy breakout pick this summer. The former Virginia Tech star is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. It’s understandable that fantasy owners feel the same way about starting Wilson as they do about filing their taxes or taking a trip to the orthodontist. After all, a bigger workload for him doesn’t fix the problems up front for the G-Men. How many total yards will David Wilson have in Week 5?

Hakeem Nicks Thinks Giants Can Still Have Best Offense In Nfl

As of today, the team is 20th in total offense (334.7 yards/game), last in rushing (44.3 yards/game) and sixth in passing (290.3 yards/game). But Nicks thinks that his team can still be the best offense in the NFL. “I said I feel we got one of the best offenses in the league and I stand by that,” Nicks said. “We got great competitors, and I think everything will be good.” Along with Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle, Nicks was part of a trio that each had 100 receiving yards in the opener. There is no denying that, when the circumstances are right, the offense can be special. When asked about Nicks’ comments, Cruz agreed, but rattled off the laundry list of conditions the Giants offense needs to shine. “As long as myself and Hakeem and the entire offense are on the same page and we’re moving and Eli is getting us the ball and we’re running the ball well, I think we’re absolutely the best offense in football.

I felt my timing was back with Eli the way it normally was.” Nicks isn’t sure if he will play in Saturday’s preseason opener at Pittsburgh. Giants’ Nicks aims to play full season

Mark Bonifacio/New York Daily News Santonio Holmes isn’t too happy with the way the Jets use him against the Titans. Thursday, he was just complaining to a group of reporters who had anticipated a sleepy afternoon press conference. The receiver got snippy when asked what he saw from Smith against the Titans. What do you mean what did I see from him? I saw that we lost the ballgame, said Holmes, who has 10 catches this season, but has been thrown to 24 times. Asked about teammate Mike Goodson, who is returning from suspension after being arrested on weapons and gun charges in the offseason, Holmes didnt sound like he wanted to buddy up with him. Honestly I think thats not part of my job description, to counsel Mike Goodson, in his return, he said.

Hakeem Nicks shows up for Giants minicamp, Victor Cruz still absent

Updated: Sept. 23, 2013 at 10:10 p.m. Friend(s) Email More Columns > Hakeem Nicks ‘ homecoming in North Carolina turned into a nightmare. In the New York Giants ‘ 38-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers , the wide receiver was targeted only once, and that was a throwaway by Eli Manning . Nicks, a former Tar Heel who grew up nearby, didn’t have a single catch. As Nicks’ teammate Victor Cruz pointed out, it was a day in which “everything went wrong” for the Giants . Nicks tried to be careful with his words after the game. “It’s part of the game,” he said, via Charles Chandler of the The Star-Ledger (Newark, N.J.).

“You always want your good players for a long time. Sometimes you can and sometimes you can’t do that. We’re hoping for the best.” Nicks had a monstrous postseason in 2011, with a club-record 28 catches, including four touchdowns, during the Giants’ run to their Super Bowl XLVI title. “Hakeem loves the big games,” Reese said. “When the lights come on, you can see the look in his eyes. He’s one of the most competitive guys I’ve been around. That’s a guy you want, man.” Another silver lining for the team is second-year wideout Rueben Randle http://www.newyorkgiantsimage.com/home/165-men-s-limited-new-york-giants-88-hakeem-nicks-nike-white-nfl-jersey.html has come on strong. With Cruz, Randle and a healthy Nicks, Manning could have the most explosive trio of receivers in his 10-year career.

Giants receivers Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz have lofty goals

Patriots QB Tom Brady suffered an apparent left knee injury Aug. 14 when LT Nate Solder was pushed into his leg.

“I’m here now and that’s all I’m going to talk about,” Nicks said . “I’m not really going to go back … it’s in the past already.” There’s been plenty of speculation, as CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora notes, that Nicks didn’t show up for the voluntary training session because of his contract status — the wideout is entering the final year of his deal. However, neither Nicks nor his agent, Peter Schaffer, have commented on whether or not Nick’s absence is contract related. Perhaps his absence was related to the injury he suffered last year? “That was definitely on my mind, but I can’t say that’s the reason,” Nicks said. It had to be a factor — Nicks broke his right foot at OTAs last year and as a result never really got back on track for the regular season. He’s in a much, much more important year for him personally in 2013 with his contract coming up and you can understand why he didn’t want to risk injury there.
